Joint Commission Accreditation
The Joint Commission is an independent organization that grades and accredits more than 21,000 health care facilities, organization and programs. There is also an international branch that accredits medical services from all over the world.
Obtaining accreditation can be an extremely challenging process for a healthcare provider. The hospital must be totally familiar with current standards, and must evaluate policies, procedures, and all processes that relate to those standards. The hospital must also improve all areas that are out of compliance and gain compliance with all new standards during the period of accreditation. This means that Joint Commission will evaluate for an entire three year span to see the implementation of standards-related issues.
